After a breathtaking Championship campaign thus far, Sheffield United took a gigantic leap towards Premier League football on Easter Monday.

The Blades' hopes of an automatic promotion finish took a major blow less than a fortnight ago, dropping points at home to Millwall at Bramall Lane, just hours before Leeds United went three points clear of 3rd spot.

But fast forward a week or so, and Chris Wilder's finally look set for a long-awaited return to the top-flight. A win over Ipswich Town next weekend will all but seal their place in the Premier League next season, after two wins in a matter of days over a hectic Easter period.

Their latest result signalled a real statement of intent. The Blades will have known that a win over Hull City will have put the pressure well and truly on Leeds, who were set to face Brentford at Griffin Park on Monday.

And Wilder's men simply showed no mercy, and fired themselves into a 3-0 lead before half-time, thanks to goals from David McGoldrick and Enda Stevens.

Regardless of whether they defeat Ipswich next weekend or not though, United actually have a lot to thank the Tractor Boys for, and they may not even know it.

A lot is said about Teemu Pukki from Norwich City being the signing of the season, and rightfully so. The Finland international has been simply incredible for Daniel Farke's men this season, and is arguably the best value for money signing that the Championship has seen in many a year.

But McGoldrick is certainly up there for one of the best signings of the 2018/19 campaign, and his showing at the weekend certainly suggested that.

Signing on a free transfer from Ipswich in the summer, on the back of scoring just eight goals in 24 appearances last time out, McGoldrick was expected to be back-up to the likes of Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke this season.

But the 31-year old has been a revelation under Chris Wilder this term, and his brace at the weekend took his tally up to 15 goals for the campaign in all competitions.

It's not just goals that the experienced forward offers, either. The experience and leadership that he will provide behind-the-scenes is sure to be invaluable to Wilder's men, and it is certainly showing on the pitch.

Would the veteran striker be able to cut it in the Premier League? The general consensus would say no. But McGoldrick is the master of proving his doubters wrong, and his strikes this season have been nothing short of beneficial in United's hunt for promotion this season.
