For many at Sheffield United, the coming days and weeks will be a time for celebration and reflection, after results over the weekend confirmed their return to the Premier League for the first time since 2007.

For some within the Blades squad however, the news of their step up to the top tier may not be quite so welcome news, due to the threat it may bring to their long term futures at Bramall Lane.

One player in particular who may be feeling that way is Conor Washington, who has endured a frustrating debut season with the Blades after joining following the termination of his contract with QPR at the end of the summer transfer window.

Since his arrival at Bramall Lane, Washington has been restricted to just three starts and 15 appearances in total for Chris Wilder’s promotion winning side, with none of those starts coming since the turn of the year, something which will surely be a concern for the 26-year-old.

Given the performances of those who have been starting regularly for The Blades it would be hard to imagine Washington forcing his way back into the side anyway, before you consider the for Wilder to strengthen his squad in order to compete in the top flight.

Since they will need to make space in the squad to make room for those additions, Washington’s position at the club looks even more concerning.

The Northern Irishman’s deal with the Blades was only a 12 month contract, meaning it is set to expire sooner rather than later anyway, making him an easy player to move on as The Blades make changes in their playing personnel.

While on the whole it has been a season to remember for those at Sheffield United, you feel that not be the case for Washington.
