Sheffield United's Billy Sharp may have scored a brace in their 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, but it was his all-round play that had manager Chris Wilder praising his captain.

The 32-year-old is on seven league goals for the season and has netted four in the last four Championship games.

The striker has catapulted to a great goalscorer from the tag of ‘fat lad from Sheffield’ in the last few seasons, but now, he is showing much more than that.

The general all round play of Sharp’s game is improving even at his age, and he will fancy his clubs chance of promotion.

Chris Wilder praised Sharp's goalscoring instincts after his brace against Blackburn, which put Blades top of the table.

Despite being top, many fans from around the country don’t fancy Sheffield United for promotion.

They had a fast start last season and missed out on the play-offs, so many pundits and fans potentially predict a similar misfortune.

But Sheffield United have won four of the last five fixtures, and are scoring goals for fun.

Billy Sharp is central to that. At age 32, Billy is as sharp as ever in front of goal and is using his leadership qualities to help the rest of the side improve their game, which is producing results.

The Yorkshire side are real promotion candidates this season, and Wilder believes it is not an impossible dream to fulfill.

And, if the Blades do go up, their talisman skipper will be absolutely crucial to that.
