After completing his surprise move to Sheffield United in January, Gary Madine settled quickly and appeared to have won the fans over.

Given his history with Blades supporters and his connections to Sheffield Wednesday, that was a tall order and he deserves credit for making a positive impression so quickly.

Therefore, he will be extremely relieved that his moment of madness last night has not cost his new club.

The 28-year-old was sent off for a lunge on Ezri Konsa that left his side down to ten men with just under an hour to play when they led 1-0.

Against a side like Brentford that is far from ideal and the Bees instantly began to dominate and it was real backs to the walls stuff for Chris Wilder's men.

However, they hung on and even added a second late on to seal what was a massive victory that highlighted the togetherness in the group.

At this stage of the campaign, every moment matters and Madine would've been in for serious criticism had the Londoners took something from the game.

And, he could have no complaints really as it was a needless tackle in a nothing area of the pitch.

The ex-Bolton man will have to take his punishment in the shape of a three-game ban and it will be tough for him to watch on as the side face Leeds in a huge game on Saturday.

But, it could've been a lot worse for Madine had the Blades ended the night four points behind the Whites in the table and he will know he owes the side one when he does return next month.
