Everton have agreed a transfer fee with Burnley for the signing of Dwight McNeil, according to The Athletic.

The fee is understood to be in the region of £20 million for the winger, which will see him make his return to the Premier League.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if this is a good deal for the Clarets…

This is a great deal for Burnley, who should be thankful to earn such a sum for McNeil.

While the winger has shown he is a promising talent, there is a sense that Everton have overpaid to secure his services.

Given the Clarets have also already moved well in the transfer market, it shouldn’t come too difficult to the club to replace his zero goals and one assist from last season.

McNeil may also not have fit quite right into Vincent Kompany’s tactical plans, so this will ease any of those concerns.

The 22-year could go on to develop into a top Premier League talent, but he is not quite there yet so offloading him to Everton for such a fee, with two-years left on his contract, is a great bit of business.

I think that this is a good deal for Burnley.

The club have put a lot of work into the development of McNeil in the last few years, and with two years remaining on his deal, a fee in the region of £20 million would give the Clarets adequate compensation.

It feels a little unknown what McNeil’s ceiling is having been an attacking player in a rather defensive system for the majority of his career so far, and Burnley have performed well in terms of outgoing transfers to balance the books this summer.

McNeil has never provided more than eight goal contributions in a season in the Premier League, and his transfer value will plummet if he does not hit the ground running in the Championship.

It seems to be the right time for the club to cash in.

With Everton signing Dwight McNeil, I think it is good business for Burnley even if they are losing a top player. He was always bound to sign for a Premier League outfit at some point with the Clarets now down in the second tier, so the aim has to be getting a fair sum for him.

That's what the club have done. £20m is a decent amount for the player and it means that all of the money Vincent Kompany has been spending on the new signings for Burnley are now funded. The Clarets have a team now that is ready for the Championship and they haven't broken the bank to do it.

They've signed the players too that are most useful to them and whilst McNeil would likely play a big part for the Clarets if he stayed on at Turf Moor, the winger does deserve to play at a higher level. It would have been worse for McNeil to stay and perhaps not play as well whilst the player seeks a deal higher up the divisions.

This transfer deal then is a win-win for all parties.
