Bradford City winger Sean Scannell is set to return to action this weekend, as the ailing Bantams desperately try to find a way off the bottom of League One.

They play Doncaster Rovers, but with six points between them and Rochdale in 23rd, they have a huge fight on their hands to climb into the safety zone.

Grant McCann's Rovers are currently sixth in the table and need points for their own promotion push, making it a tough ask for the struggling Bantams to get anything form the fixture.

They may be boosted by the return of Scannell, out since October 6th through injury. He was last seen trudging off against Sunderland, having been dismissed in the final minute of the fixture.

His return has been hailed by manager Gary Bowyer, who feels he can give the whole squad a boost in their time of need. It's a big ask though and may just put more pressure on the former Huddersfield man.

Bradford were struggling when he first went off injured, but as he returns they're deep in the mire. Relegation doesn't just seem a possibility, it looks almost certain as the teams above them win fixtures and keep opening up a small gap.

In contrast, Bradford have won once since the start of February.

Scannell will be hoping to get himself back on track, not least because relegation would surely necessitate a move for him. He is contracted beyond the current season, but the club need a huge summer clear out and having been in the Championship with Huddersfield he'll surely not want to play League Two football.

He must be feeling the pressure right now. He's playing not only for his future, but also to prove his fitness after the injury.

If that isn't enough, he's now got the hopes of the entire squad pinned on him, not particularly from a goals or assists point of view, but in picking them up and boosting morale.

The 28-year-old is likely to face the most challenging six matches of his professional career this month. How he does could affect the future not only for himself, but all of Bradford City.
