There have been tough seasons for both Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers this time out, with the latter being relegated to League One after a horrendous season in the Championship.

Despite Tony Mowbray's best efforts, he wasn't able to save Rovers from the drop and the Lancashire giants will now begin life in the third-tier next season.

And as per any relegation, Blackburn are at risk of losing some of their biggest stars over the summer months and one man that could be on his way is centre-back Charlie Mulgrew.

The former Celtic man has been a big part of any good things we've seen at Ewood Park this season and he scored a stunning free-kick in Rovers' final game of the season against Brentford.

Of course, it wasn't enough to keep them up but once again, it showed he's a player with a real amount of quality at this level.

But one team that might want to be keeping tabs on the goalscoring centre-back is Birmingham City, who just about secured their Championship status on the final day of the season.

Harry Redknapp is now at the helm at St Andrews but moving forward, it's clear reinforcements are needed down in the Midlands.

Defensively, the Blues have been poor during large parts of this campaign and bringing in a player like Mulgrew to challenge the likes of Morrison and Shotton for a first-team place wouldn't be a bad shout in the slightest.

He's going to be available on a cheaper deal because of Blackburn's relegation and that certainly something Birmingham should bare in mind, especially as Harry Redknapp looks to add to his squad in the coming weeks.
