There are a host of Leeds United’s players out on loan, with Marcelo Bielsa overseeing a huge summer clear out at LS11.

Leeds’ trimmed squad is looking to establish itself in the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race, with full focus on the Whites getting back to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

However, players out on loan are catching the eye, particularly Mallik Wilks, who has scored five goals across all competitions this season for Doncaster Rovers.

Reports are suggesting that Leeds are looking to tie the 19-year-old forward down to fresh terms, whilst Doncaster are also hoping to extend Wilks’ loan deal beyond January.

It’s likely that Leeds will want Wilks’ long-term future secured before they agree to any extension, with it looking like the Whites are well on their way to reaching an agreement.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the reasons why Leeds are absolutely right to tie Wilks down…

At 19, Wilks’ best is still ahead of him.

The forward is scoring goals in the lower leagues and looks to be make progress.

In the coming years Wilks could reach his potential, and after putting time into his development, Leeds will want to be the ones to benefit from that potential.

Wilks is in excellent form for Doncaster.

He’s scored five goals this season without featuring that regularly and is clearly impressing Grant McCann.

The type of form Wilks is producing more than justifies a contract extension.

With Wilks’ contract running down at Elland Road, other clubs could be casting an eye over the striker and his development at Doncaster.

Of course, Leeds would receive compensation should Wilks’ deal run right down, but the Whites won’t want to find themselves in that situation.

Agreeing fresh terms with the teenager will fend off any club looking to swoop in and sign Wilks.
