Reading have endured a very tough start to the season and it seems as though Paul Clement's men will be in a relegation scrap this season.

Only goal difference keeps the Royals outside the bottom three ahead of a crucial game against Millwall after the international break.

The Berkshire side will be at home against the Lions but finding form at the Madejski Stadium has been a massive problem, with Clement's men losing five from six on their own patch.

Even though they've shown at times they can compete with most in this league, the squad seems to be lacking quality in key areas.

Therefore, even now it seems as though the January window could be pivotal in ensuring Reading aren't stuck near the bottom.

Clement will be desperate to bring in some new faces and here we look at THREE potential signings that could make a big difference...

Reading have conceded far too many goals this season and whilst it's not entirely down to their keepers, there are upgrades out there.

Vito Mannone started the season as number one, with Sam Walker now in goal. However, Westwood is a better option.

The Irishman is out of favour at Sheffield Wednesday and would surely welcome the chance to move. Even if it's a loan deal, if Clement could bring him in it would seriosly boost their chances of a good campaign.

The youngster flourished on loan at Nottingham Forest last season but remained at Everton after the summer window.

However, he isn't playing games and another loan to the second-tier seems inevitable. Again, this would be an ambitious move but it's the sort of player the Royals need.

Dowell would bring creativity, goals and a spark to this team.

The striker got a move to Cardiff thanks to his brilliant form for Bolton last season, highlighting how good he can be at this level.

Reading still need another option up top and Madine has the all-round game to help the side.

Cardiff will be on the lookout for a number nine in January and that should mean Madine will become available.
