After a slow start this season, it seems Aitor Karanka's Nottingham Forest are beginning to show their true colours.

They've won far too few games to be counted as title challengers at the moment, they're in fifth but are closer to QPR in 18th than they are Sheffield United at the top of the table.

They are tough to beat though and have only lost on one occasion this season, which is how they've been able to pot a course into the top six.

Whilst there's always the possibility of losing a 2-0 lead against the likes of Millwall, the fine win against Boro shows on their day, they can match anyone in the division.

The key now is for them to identify the problems within their current squad and do what Karanka seemingly likes to do best; sign new players.

They've not been quiet this summer, but we think they're three players away from a truly unstoppable side. Here are three players FLW thinks would enhance Forest in 2019.

The Portuguese players haven't settled yet, certainly not to a point where they've had an impact and that means there are holes to cover. If it doesn't look like the big money buys are working out, why not find some more money to throw at the problem?

If they could muster up the finances, they could do far worse than tempt Nick Powell to the City Ground. They need more goals and he scores them and creates them.

He's going to be a top player too, so it might be a wiser investment all ends up.

Ansarifard is one man we've already seen linked with the club.

It seems as though the move has gone quiet for now, but there is clearly interest from the Reds.

It'd be wise to try and bring him in.

Forest's strikers haven't looked as sharp as they might, Grabban has found his feet recently but they don't have a prolific man in the forward role.

Sam Gallagher is an exciting prospect who is struggling to get in at Southampton. A loan swoop for him in January would add firepower and energy to their front line and, coupled with the other two we've identified, could leave Forest welcoming Premier League football in May.
