What a start it has been for Mark Bowen at Reading, the new boss has had two very tricky fixtures since taking over but he's earned four points out of six.

It has come at a much needed time for Reading, after a lot of fans voiced their displeasure at the sacking of manager Jose Gomes.

Bowen has made some minor adjustments to the team, but also made some in terms of squad selection with some old faces appearing more and more since his arrival.

Sam Baldock was handed his first start of the season on Tuesday, whilst Chris Gunter has been recalled to training.

Another to be recalled, who has been a key figure at Reading for a number of years, is Garath McCleary who came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with QPR in midweek and made an impact on the game.

He was one of a few that had been excluded by former manager Jose Gomes, and now that he's back in the mix of it, he'll want to push on for the Royals.

McCleary will be feeling much better about things, especially after posting a number of cryptic Instagram posts throughout the season. His brief cameo came at the right time for the winger and he looked dangerous as he attacked through the middle and on the right-hand side.

He now gives Reading another option as they have no out and out winger after Mo Barrow was loaned out in the summer transfer window.

The Jamaican will want to be involved in the game against his former club Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and hope that it will be the start of some consistency to work up his fitness to potentially start a game.

It is also hard for him when it comes to looking at the formation that the Royals play. They currently play without any wingers, with three centre-backs and a wing-back on either side. He doesn't possess the defensive capabilities for a role as a wing-back, so probably wonders where he fits in.

If he keeps working hard and producing then there's no reason why he shouldn't be a viable option.
