It’s set to be one of the toughest Championship campaigns to date over the next few months as a whole host of teams do battle in order to secure a place in the Premier League.

Joining the original batch of sides are Millwall, Sheffield United and Bolton whilst Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull City make up the numbers having been relegated from the top flight last season.

But there’s one team we’ve got our eye on over the summer and that’s Paul Heckingbottom’s Barnsley, who quietly went about their business last season to really good effect.

Finishing well away from the drop zone, the Tykes were far more of a threat than they have been at this level over the past few years and it’s testament to the work Heckingbottom has done over the past few years at Oakwell.

But moving forward, he’s going to have to continue adding to the Tykes ranks over the summer if they’re to continue their progress at this level and there’s one man we at the FLW think he should have his eye on more than anyone else.

The player in question? Rangers defender James Tavernier.

Tavernier has been playing North of the border for a couple of seasons now and whilst last season wasn’t the best we’ve seen from him, he remained an attacking threat in at right-back.

His defending was questioned at times which is probably fair enough but there’s a case to argue that the whole of the Rangers squad were shaky at best during large spells last season.

But for Barnsley, bringing in a player of his attacking ability would be nothing but good for their aspirations of reaching the play-offs next season.

Of course, its going to be tough but bringing in an attacking full-back that is renowned for his set-piece ability, his hard work and ability to bomb forward wouldn’t be a bad thing in the slightest.

Heckingbottom has made a superb start to life in Yorkshire and bringing in a player like Tavernier would be an excellent way to kick off his summer business.

Tykes fans- would this be a decent move? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
