It was supposed to be a tough season for much unfancied QPR and manager Ian Holloway, whom many gave little hope to when last Saturday's games eventually kicked off.

But after the Hoops comfortably beat Reading 2-0 at Loftus Road this weekend, there seems to be a fresh flow of optimism gushing around the club.

Holloway's team were more than a match for last season's third-placed outfit and in honesty, looked the better side throughout the game.

The former Blackpool chief has obviously worked on his team's pre-season fitness and they looked a whole lot sharper than their Berkshire counterparts on this occasion.

But here at the FLW, we think there was one player that really stood out amongst the rest and that's £1.7million-rated international Conor Washington.

The former Peterborough man led the line tremendously well and got two goals for his troubles, marking an impressive start to his campaign.

Of course, a start is all it is but moving forward, it's the sort of form that manager Ian Holloway will be delighted to see early doors. A headed goal and a penalty was the story of the game but Washington looked sharper than we've seen him for months. There's been plenty of Hoops fans that have argued he hasn't scored enough goals during his QPR career but that could be about to change this season.

If Washington is given the chance to play through the middle rather than on the wing and is supported properly by his colleagues, he could be the top dog at Loftus Road next season.

Luke Freeman played well, whilst Jamie Mackie also showed some positive glimpses too.

A cracking start for QPR and an equally good one for Conor Washington too.
