Nottingham Forest had a real season to forget last time out and it’s imperative the Reds aim higher in the Championship this time out.

The Reds struggled at the wrong end of the table for the majority of the last campaign and the need for change this summer is greater than ever.

As former manager Phillipe Montanier found out all too quickly, there’s far too much deadwood in this Nottingham Forest side and moving forward, the Reds will need to get rid of some of that to bring in some real quality.

But one man they will be focused on keeping more than any other player in the squad is striker Britt Assombalonga.

The Congolese forward spent most of last season on the sidelines with injury but moving forward, it’s clear that he’s got a massive role to play in this Forest side.

But as we’ve seen over the past couple of years, the Reds have underwhelmed and you wouldn’t in the slightest blame Assombalonga if he considered a move away this summer.

And one club we at the FLW think should have a real eye on him going forward is the new-look Leeds United, who last week confirmed Thomas Christiansen as their new manager.

The former APOEL Nicosia manager has big boots to fill following the departure of Garry Monk but bringing in another big-name striker to either play alongside Chris Wood or to compete with him should be top of his transfer priorities.

Wood was in superb form last season but the over-reliance on his services was clear to see all-season long.

Assombalonga won’t be a snip in the slightest but if there was ever a time for new owner Andrea Radriazzini to prove his commitment to the Elland Road cause, then making a statement like this would be it.

Assombalonga is a huge, strong and goal-getting unit upfront and his talent at this level shouldn’t be underestimated in the slightest.

Make the move Leeds- you seriously won’t regret it.
