Bradley Dack remains a key man for Blackburn Rovers if they are to compete for a top six spot in the Championship next season.

Their resolve over the midfielder now looks set to be tested, however, with The Sun reporting that Premier League pair Brighton and Aston Villa are keen are on a summer move for Dack.

It has previously been reported by The Daily Mail that Rovers will demand £18million for Dack during the summer transfer window.

That seems a significant amount for the 24-year-old, and it could put some clubs off the midfielder.

Here, Football League World looks at why £12million would be a fair price for Dack.

It should be worth noting to begin with that, with two years left on his contract at Ewood Park, Rovers are in no need to sell Dack, and with him finishing as the club's top scorer in the two seasons he has been there.

If they do chose to sell Dack, however, then it is essential that Rovers replace their main man, so they would need to make sure they get a decent fee to go towards that.

Despite that, clubs will not be willing to pay over the odds for a player who has only just experienced his first season in one of English football's top two tiers, and who did at times struggle during poor runs for the club this season - even if his work rate cannot be faulted.

But while work rate will make you popular, that alone is no guarantee of survival for a club such as Brighton or Villa, who are likely to be aiming for consolidation in the top tier, and so they will not pay a big price if it could cost them significantly in terms of position.

When you read reports that Joe Lolley - who has much more Championship experience than Dack (and even a few Premier League games under his belt) - is being priced at £15million by Nottingham Forest (The Sun, 02/06, p59) to provide a similar contribution, it is hard to see clubs paying a bigger price for the Blackburn man.

It should be remembered that Blackburn paid just £750,000 to Gillingham for Dack only two years ago, so be it £12million, £18million, or somewhere in between, Rovers will be receiving a huge return on their investment should they let their talisman leave.
