Leeds United have made a magnificent start to the season, and the club’s supporters will be confident that Thomas Christiansen can do what Garry Monk failed to do last year, by delivering a top-six finish.

Christiansen and Leeds’ board moulded an extremely competitive squad over the course of the summer, which has given the Whites exceptional depth almost right across the pitch.

Left-back is perhaps the only area of Christiansen’s squad that has looked weak during the opening months, with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Vurnon Anita and Gaetano Berardi all featuring there at some point.

Borthwick-Jackson is the club’s only recognised left-back, but the on-loan Manchester United defender has been handed just four starts across all competitions so far.

Anita and Berardi have both done well, but Championship rivals are beginning to identify that as a weak area of Leeds’ otherwise tight unit.

Here at FLW, we believe Huddersfield Town’s Scott Malone would be the perfect addition in January, and someone that Christiansen should seriously consider taking a look at.

The 26-year-old has been limited to just two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Huddersfield, but showed his class last year in the Championship, featuring in 38 fixtures for Fulham, who edged ahead of Leeds in the race for the play-offs.

£2.25m-rated Malone was the Championship’s standout left-back last season, and he would certainly improve Leeds’ left side if he was to arrive in January.

Not too many things will have worried Christiansen since his arrival at Elland Road, but it is becoming obvious that Leeds have failed to properly replace Charlie Taylor.

The January transfer window could be key for Leeds once again - last year Monk failed to use it to strengthen his squad, and Christiansen cannot afford to make the same mistake, he must sign a left-back.
