Sheffield United have perhaps emerged as a surprise package of the Championship season, with Chris Wilder’s newly promoted side challenging for a play-off berth in their first semester back at the higher level.

Wilder has proven an inspirational appointment, with the local man mastermind the Blades’ title-winning campaign last year and the talented gaffer is garnering a growing reputation within the game.

A top-six finish is still a long way off, with plenty of clubs in the mix to secure their spot in the end of season shoot-out and fans will remain level-headed in the final weeks.

Remaining at their current level is the likely outcome but one that will delight the majority of those associated with the club and many will look forward to the summer and Wilder’s transfer plans.

If another promotion push is to be on the cards, moves for this pair of Premier League outcasts must surely be on the agenda…

With young shot-stopper Jamal Blackman set to return to Chelsea at the end of the year when his season-long loan deal with the club expires, Wilder will need to source a replacement.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Darlow has appeared just ten times for the Magpies in the Premier League and will surely be left disappointed by manager Rafa Benitez’s lack of faith after the former Nottingham Forest man proved inspirational during their title-winning campaign last year.

Benitez opted to bring in Slovakian Martin Dubravka in January, further limiting Darlow’s output, with the 27-year-old sure to be open to a move away.

A quality young keeper, Darlow could prove to be the man between the sticks at Bramall Lane for the next ten years if Wilder can find the funds to strike a deal.

The 29-year-old American’s signing was touted as one of the most promising of boss David Wagner’s summer, with the German convincing the impressive midfielder that his future lied with the Premier League new boys after the Terriers had beaten Williams’ former club Reading in the play-off final.

Essential to the Royals’ run to Wembley, his absence is clear for all to see at the Madejski given the club’s current position towards the relegation places and Wilder will realise the importance of the player’s output.

Williams will be left disappointed by the eleven starts in his debut top-flight campaign and could be open to a move away.

Having settled in Yorkshire, a switch to nearby Sheffield could appeal to a player who would significantly improve upon the current options available to the South Yorkshire side.

Blades fans, thoughts?
