Coasting towards a mid-table finish, the current campaign with be considered by many Leeds United fans to have been an unmitigated disaster.

The busy transfer policy of former boss Thomas Christiansen alongside director of football Victor Orta sparked an interest and belief amongst the terraces that hadn’t been witnessed for a long time at Elland Road, yet disappointment followed.

Christiansen was sacked following several barren spells, with Paul Heckingbottom struggling since taking over from the Dane and failing to find the correct formula to draw the best from the squad he inherited.

Big changes are required in the summer and ‘Hecky’ must look to bring in fresh faces if the Whites are to stand any chance of promotion.

Looking to the Premier League is a start and this pair of outcasts could be available for cut-price fees…

Could Leeds really tempt the former England striker to the Championship?

Defoe has struggled for minutes since his switch to the Vitality Stadium and will be disappointed to have found himself behind Josh King and Callum Wilson in the pecking order.

Perhaps one of the best natural finishers this country has ever produced, Defoe would score goals for fun in the second tier despite his age, with the forward set to turn thirty-six in October.

Wages may prove a stumbling block in any potential deal, but Defoe is a model professional and the promise of first team football at a hugely supported club with certainly appeal.

A deal is unlikely, but Defoe could seriously be the man that fires Leeds United to the Premier League.

A more feasible target than Defoe, Wells has been an outcast at Burnley this season since making the summer switch from Huddersfield Town and is yet to start a league match under Sean Dyche.

Deadly during spells with Bradford City and then the Terriers, Wells is perhaps one of the most potent finishers in the Football League in recent times and could be the man that replaces the goals lost when Kiwi striker Chris Wood made his own move to Burnley last year.

The Whites have lacked a presence since his departure, with the likes of Pawel Cibicki, Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban failing to find the back of the net on the regular or at all it seems and Wells could be the solution.

Bag a big name like Wells and Hecky will have the fans firmly behind him ahead of the new year.

Leeds fans, could either of these see you to promotion?
