Sunderland look very well placed to launch a serious promotion bid straight back to the Championship with 28 matches played this season.

With just six days left of the January transfer window, however, time is running out if Jack Ross plans to strengthen his side further in order to gain an edge on their promotion rivals.

So far this month, Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne is the only new face to arrive at the Stadium of Light as well as Max Power's loan deal becoming a permanent one.

They were linked with a potentially exciting attacking acquisition on Friday, however, when Bolton Wanderers' Erhun Oztumer was reported as a rumoured target.

The 27-year-old has had a tricky time since moving to Bolton in the summer and Phil Parkinson is apparently willing to let him go.

During his spell with Walsall in League One, Oztumer netted 32 goals in 95 appearances and it looks like he could find himself back in the third-tier soon.

But how could the Black Cats set up their attack if he were to arrive?

Right-wing: Lynden Gooch

The American prefers playing directly behind the striker but has shown this season to be equally adept when placed out wide as well.

The 23-year-old has scored five and assisted eight already this season as well as signing a new long-term deal, becoming a real fan favourite in the process.

Attacking-midfield: Erhun Oztumer

This is where the diminutive attacker shines brightest.

It is where he played the majority of his time with Walsall and previously with Peterborough United, scoring a host of stunning goals as well as racking up the assists with ease.

Left-wing: Aiden McGeady

The Irishman is a class above in League One and whilst he is at the club Ross would be foolish not to play him.

Six goals and five assists is impressive but you still get the impression that there is more to come from the 32-year-old in the closing months of the season.

Striker: Charlie Wyke

With star man Josh Maja looking set for a move away, there is a chance that the goalscoring burden will land on Charlie Wyke's shoulders.

But he could not have asked for a better creative trio to back him up and chances are an inevitability with the standard of player behind him.
