Derby County are thriving under Frank Lampard, with the Rams looking like one side that can push for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

Lampard’s first season in management has been impressive so far, with Derby going well in the Championship and playing a good brand of attacking football.

Key to their success so far this season has been Mason Mount, who is on loan from Chelsea.

Mount’s arrival came because of Lampard and Jody Morris’ connections at Stamford Bridge, with the Rams also able to sign Fikayo Tomori.

That Chelsea duo could soon be joined by Ethan Ampadu, who according to the Birmingham Mail, remains a Derby target ahead of January.

Ampadu, 18, is able to play in either defence or midfield, but with Derby’s options at centre-back, we could well see Ampadu slot into Lampard’s midfield unit.

With that in mind, we select a new-look midfield if Ampadu arrives at Derby…

Huddlestone’s passing game is important to how Lampard wants his side to play.

Add the midfielder’s experience to that and he’s not likely to be displaced by Ampadu.

Recently we’ve seen Huddlestone anchor the midfield on his own, but the addition of Ampadu would probably see the Chelsea youngster line up in a deep midfield role.

This would give Derby a solid base and allow their attacking players to make the difference during the second-half of the season.

Mount has played as more of a central midfielder this season, but with two sitting midfielders in the side, he can express himself higher up the pitch.

This could be huge for Derby later on in the season as Mount looks to build on some impressive stats and fire Derby to promotion.
