It’s January, and Aston Villa are using the mid-season transfer window to make the additions for a late play off push…
The club have already added Henri Lansbury to their squad, beating a number of sides to the former Nottingham Forest man’s signature, and today completed a deal to sign highly-rated James Bree from Barnsley.
Joining with Bree today was Birkir Bjarnason, who linked up with Steve Bruce for an undisclosed fee from FC Basel.
Bjarnason was part of Iceland’s fabulous run in Euro 2016 over the summer and has plenty of experience in the Champions League and across Europe in Belgium, Switzerland and Italy.
He is expected to bring energy, steel and determination to the Aston Villa midfield, which could look drastically different considering their January recruits.
Here is how Villa’s new midfield could look including Bjarnason, following his move this morning.
