After clinging on to their Championship status last season, it is fair to say that Nottingham Forest are a side that need to do some work ahead of the new season.

Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton stressed how important pre-season would be on the day that he joined the club, and with The Reds currently in America on a fitness camp, their preparations are already well underway.

They are boosted by the signing of striker Jason Cummings from Hibernian who became Warburton's first capture as Nottingham Forest boss, and they will be hopeful they can secure a few more deals before the new season.

Boosted by the backing of new owners in Evangelos Marinakis, it comes as no surprise that the East Midlands club continues to be linked for a move with a number of players.

Who Mark Warburton signs in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but there can be no denying that under the former Brentford manager's leadership and some new players, Forest could be dark horses for a promotion push next season.

Despite their recent struggles, Warburton is blessed with a number of talented attacking players that could fire the team to success last season, and with a few further additions, this is only going to improve.

So FLW writer Harry Webster takes a look at Forest's potential attacking arsenal for next season...

CM - Massimo Luongo

Forest already have some talented players in the midfield department such as the experienced pair of Chris Cohen and David Vaughan who will be key players next season.

But The Reds have recently been linked with a move for the Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo and the 24-year-old would be an astute signing by Mark Warburton.

Apart from the academy graduate Matty Cash and January signing Zach Clough, Forest would welcome some more flair and energy in the centre of midfield and Luongo, who has just finished playing for his home country Australia in the Confederations Cup, would provide that in abundance.

RF - Barrie McKay

The confirmation of Barrie McKay's move to Nottingham Forest from Rangers for a deal worth £500k looks imminent meaning he will become Mark Warburton's second summer signing, joining Scottish striker Jason Cummings at the club.

Quick, skilful and extremely comfortable with both feet, the 22-year-old attacker could be a real menace in the Sky Bet Championship next season.

With reports suggesting that RB Leipzig were chasing McKay for £6 million, Forest's £600k deal is a tremendous coup.

Mark Warburton's favoured formation is 4-3-3 and you would expect McKay to be a key player in that front three next season.

LF - Jason Cummings

Jason Cummings became Nottingham Forest's first summer signing a couple of weeks ago when he also made the move from his homeland of Scotland to the East Midlands.

Cummings scored 23 goals for Hibernian last season and the prolific scorer will be determined to replicate that sort of form at his new club.

The left footed forward could be a dangerous player alongside Britt Assombalonga next season and Forest fans will be excited about watching the 21-year-old in a red shirt.

ST - Britt Assombalonga

When Britt Assombalonga is fit and firing you will struggle to find a better striker in the Championship.

The 24-year-old is a key player for Mark Warburton's side and if they can resist any interest shown from Middlesbrough and Burnley, Forest may well be dark horses for a promotion push next season.

When the former Peterborough United man is in the side, Forest usually score plenty of goals, and with the services of both McKay and Cummings next season as well as plenty of creativity coming from the middle, Assombalonga could fire The Reds to success.
