Nottingham Forest have recently been linked with the signing of Boavista full-back Reggie Cannon.
Cannon joined Boavista from FC Dallas for around $3.5million last summer, making 33 appearances in all competitions last season.
The right-back also has 22 caps for the USA national side, and featured 75 times for Dallas during his time in the MLS.
According to 90min, Forest have made an official bid to sign Cannon as Chris Hughton looks to bring in his fourth summer signing.
Forest have found it tough to bring in players this summer, with a small squad starting the Championship season and losing their first three games of the campaign.
Cannon’s arrival would see him provide competition at right-back for Jordi Osei-Tutu, first and foremost.
Osei-Tutu recently arrived on loan from Arsenal, but has since had to fill in at left-back due to a shortage of numbers there.
The full-back did hobble off with a suspected hamstring issue in Wednesday’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers, but once he returns from his spell on the sidelines, the pair will battle it out for a place in the side.
Another player who Cannon’s arrival may affect, though, is Jordan Gabriel, who was sent off in Wednesday’s defeat to Blackburn.
Gabriel has started the first three games of the season at right-back, struggling to make a real impact under Chris Hughton thus far.
Quiz: Have Nottingham Forest won or lost more against each of these 25 English teams?
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in League One with Blackpool, making 35 appearances in all competitions as the Tangerines won promotion via the play-offs.
Gabriel has been linked with a return to Bloomfield Road, whilst Sunderland are also said to be keen on signing the right-back on a permanent deal this summer.
Cannon’s arrival would leave Forest with three right-backs, but with interest rife in Gabriel, a departure could be likely.
