Nottingham Forest were unable to pull off a big cup upset in North London last night, with Sabri Lamouchi's side crashing out of the Carabao Cup after losing 5-0 to Arsenal.

The Reds have really picked up in the Sky Bet Championship lately, and have moved up to sixth spot in the league table after securing back-to-back league wins for the first time this season at the weekend.

But Lamouchi's men took a break from league action on Tuesday night, as they prepared to make the trip to the Emirates with over 8,000 Forest fans behind them.

Many won't have expected Forest to pull off an upset against the Gunners, but the Reds still put in a promising performance, and the scoreline gave a somewhat false representation of the game.

In the end, Arsenal's attacking quality proved too much to handle for Forest, with Gabriel Martinelli, Rob Holding, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock firing Unai Emery's side into round four of the cup.

Forest failed to replicate any kind of firepower going forward, but Yuri Ribeiro was undoubtedly the Reds' standout performer, and caused Arsenal problems down the left-hand side.

As perhaps expected, Lamouchi made a host of changes to the side that won against Barnsley at the weekend. Ribeiro kept his place in the side, but he was pushed further forward to a left-wing role.

Ribeiro has been hugely impressive for the Reds since joining from Benfica in the summer - the versatile defender was exceptional against the Tykes on Saturday, putting in a solid display at left-back.

But on Tuesday night, we saw a different side of Ribeiro's game. He is an attacking full-back who loves to get forward and link up with play, and he was allowed to do so without having to worry too much about defensive duties in midweek.

He has a wicked delivery, a bit of pace about him, and he is good on the ball, and he showed that he could be a really useful player for Forest going forward from here.

Forest don't really have a natural left-footed winger other than Sammy Ameobi - a player who is renowned for taking on his man, getting to the byline and putting in a cross or two.

Ribeiro is exactly the type of competition Ameobi needs on the left flank, with Joe Lolley and Albert Adomah known more for cutting in and causing problems in different ways.

Whilst the left-back role is Ribeiro's bread and butter, his positional change on Tuesday night could unlock doors for him to become an even more important player for the Reds this season.

This is an option that Lamouchi should consider more often for sure.
