Portsmouth fans have finally seen their team begin climbing the Football League ladder once again and there are certainly brighter days ahead on the South Coast.

Now led by Football League stalwart Kenny Jackett, Pompey are back in League One and have been tipped as an early favourite to challenge for the top-six, both by neutrals and their own supporters.

And you wouldn’t put it past them either - with increased investment and the continued support their loyal fans, you wouldn’t put a return to the Championship or higher too far away at all.

Jackett has a very busy summer ahead of him and needs to get his investment spot on if he is to continue taking the club forward.

But there’s one player already on the books at Fratton Park that we think could hold the key to more Portsmouth success in the very near future, and that’s rising forward Conor Chaplin.

If there is one player that embodies the spirit of the club and the success of the past year, it’s young Chaplin.

His energy, work-rate and ability spoke volumes about how good he can be in the future and if that’s just after one season, Portsmouth have a real player on their hands.

Whilst his goalscoring return could do with a little more work, his exemplary attitude on the pitch plays a massive part in his game and with time and continued development, the goals will carry on flying in, that’s for sure.

What’s certain is that right now, there’s no better place for Chaplin’s development than remaining at Fratton Park, banging in the goals and endearing himself to the supporters even more.

We’re predicting a very bright season ahead for the young striker.
