Portsmouth have had a rather inconsistent start to their current campaign, and Kenny Jackett has already been under immense pressure so far this season.

Pompey will have much bigger aims than a middle table finish that they currently occupy and the League One side will hope to push up the league in the coming weeks.

One player who will be hoping that Jackett keeps his league lineup the same is John Marquis. He started the last fixture up top with Ellis Harrison, and they both looked very bright together at the right-end of the pitch.

Both were able to get on the scoresheet and have proved that they can be threats in this division in the past. Obviously there's Brett Pitman in and amongst the side, but it would be unfair to drop this duo who seemed to thrive on playing together as a pair.

The trip to Rochdale is a big game in terms of the season, it's now getting to that time of the campaign when the table really starts to take shape and gaps begin to form between different teams. It's vital that Jackett can put together a good run that will ensure that Pompey are competing for a place in the top six come the final months.

Marquis has been brilliant in his time at Doncaster, and now he wants to show it by moving up a level and getting promotion to the Championship with Portsmouth. The only way he can do that is with the required support around him.

Goals is key in League One and you see a side like Wycombe leading the way at the minute, and what they have at their disposal is a lot of goals. Portsmouth, in many a game this campaign have lacked a goal threat in games, whether it has been through creating chances or finishing them.

This is where the new partnership of Harrison and Marquis could become so important to Pomepy's season. If they can both start scoring regularly then there is no doubt that Jackett's side has the required quality to push for a place in the top six.

Marquis will be excited to get back underway after the postponed league game due to the international break, and he'll be hoping it'll be next to Harrison.
