The players that will leave Portsmouth on a free this summer unless contracts are renewed

on

Portsmouth will be looking to push forward as a club later this year after missing out on a place in the play-offs this season.

In order to have the best chance of launching a bid for promotion in the 2022/23 campaign, Pompey will unquestionably need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Whereas head coach Danny Cowley will already be looking at ways to improve his team, he will also need to make decisions on the futures of some of the club’s existing players.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the individuals who will leave Portsmouth on a free this summer unless their contracts are renewed…

Marcus Harness

Marcus Harness’ current deal is set to expire in June but Portsmouth do have the option to trigger a clause in this contract which will extend his stay for another 12 months.

During the 2021/22 season, Harness has scored 11 goals and has provided four assists in 37 league appearances for Pompey.

Michael Jacobs

Michael Jacobs’ contract reaches a crescendo this summer and Portsmouth have yet to take up the option which will automatically extend his stay.

Cowley recently admitted that he would be open to negotiating a performance-based deal with Jacobs who has made 21 league appearances for Pompey this season.

Sean Raggett

Sean Raggett’s contract at Fratton Park is set to expire in June and fresh terms have yet to be agreed between the defender and Pompey.

In the 42 league appearances that he has made for Portsmouth this season, Raggett has managed to average an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.07.

Louis Thompson

Louis Thompson will also become a free-agent this summer if Portsmouth opt against handing him a new deal in the coming months.

The midfielder has played 29 games for the club in League One this season and is currently averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.60 at this level.

Jay Mingi

Jay Mingi’s deal expires following the culmination of the current term and an official decision has yet to be made by Portsmouth regarding his future.

The 21-year-old has been limited to just one appearance in League One this season and thus it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up being one of the players that is allowed to leave this summer.

Aiden O’Brien

O’Brien joined Portsmouth in January on a short-term deal and will be keen to extend his stay at Portsmouth past the summer following what has been a fruitful spell for the winger.

In the 14 appearances that he has made for Pompey in League One, O’Brien has been directly involved in five goals.

Ollie Webber

Ollie Webber’s contract at Portsmouth is also set to reach a conclusion in the summer.

Signed by Pompey in January, Webber has failed to make any inroads on Pompey’s starting eleven due to the presence of Gavin Bazunu.

Shaun Williams

Shaun Williams’ deal with Pompey will expire in June.

The midfielder has made 35 appearances for Portsmouth in all competitions this season and recently missed a chunk of action due to a hamstring injury.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s contract is set to expire this summer and a fresh agreement with Pompey has yet to be made regarding a new deal.

Before suffering a season-ending injury, Hackett-Fairchild provided six direct goal contributions in 27 league appearances for Portsmouth.

Jayden Reid

Jayden Reid’s deal at Portsmouth also expires in June and it will be intriguing to see whether the club will offer him fresh terms.

The winger has missed the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign due to a serious knee injury and has yet to make a senior appearance for Pompey.

Callum Johnson

After making 40 appearances for Portsmouth last season, Callum Johnson was loaned out to Fleetwood Town during the previous summer transfer window and is set to return to Fratton Park in May.

With his Pompey deal coming to an end, the full-back may be granted a permanent exit from the club if he is not part of Cowley’s plans for the future.

Paul Downing

Paul Downing was sent out on loan by Portsmouth to Rochdale earlier this year after being limited to just two appearances in League One during the first-half of the season.

Considering that the defender’s deal is set to expire in June, it wouldn’t be a shock if he is one of the players who Pompey opt to release this summer.
