There's mounting speculation that Derby County boss Frank Lampard could be in line for a move back to manage his former club Chelsea.

Lampard has been forced to address the speculation in the wake of his side's 1-0 defeat against Millwall last night, but the long Maurizio Sarri's role is in question, the longer links between the former England midfielder and a Stamford Bridge return continue.

Lampard has very little management experience having been in charge at Pride Park for less than a year. That might be a concern to some of the seasoned professionals at Stamford Bridge, such as Gonzalo Higuaín. However, one man who could benefit from the move is Mason Mount.

The exciting young talent has been on loan at Derby this season, making 26 Championship appearances and scoring four goals. His initial loan spell surely had two intentions, for him to get game time and to do Lampard a favour.

Mount has been excellent for the Rams and working closely with Lampard will have forged a good relationship between the two. There's few better midfielders in the English game to learn from than the former West Ham man and Mount will have got vital minutes under his belt, but crucial advice from a top class player as well.

He'll be hoping to see Lampard get the Chelsea job because of that strong relationship. If another foreign manager sits in the dugout next season, Mount is just another young man who has been out on loan, much like the forty other Chelsea players currently borrowed by other clubs.

If Lampard takes over, he's Mason Mount, the player who impressed all season for the Rams and someone Lampard knows better than the rest. It gives him an edge over that highly-competitive youth currently at the club.

If Frank Lampard takes over at Chelsea, it edges Mason Mount closer to the reality of a first team place, with the managers trust already having been placed in him. That can only be a good thing for him, for Chelsea and maybe even for the future of the English game.
