Barnsley have had a poor season which has seen them end up in the relegation zone in the Championship.

However, their manager Poya Asbaghi and the team have really fought and now find themselves only two points off Reading who sit above them and out of the relegation zone.

Their efforts were massively helped by a 2-0 win against 18th place Bristol City last night which sees them unbeaten in three games.

We asked FLW's Barnsley fan pundit Joe Beardsall which player impressed most in last night's game and why. "In fairness the entire Barnsley team are fighting like mad to try and stay up and it's amazing to see that effort.

"One player that particularly impressed me against Bristol City and since he came in, Matty Wolfe.

"This guy is the player we've been missing all season.

"We said in the summer we have to replace Alex Mowatt. He was so key last year, he was our leader.

"We didn't do that but Matty Wolfe since he came in, these last few games he's just everything we need in that central midfield. He does the basics really, really well, he's strong, he battles, he just gets the ball back and then he just does the nice simple things you know, lay off a pass, let's everyone else have that creative spark but he just drives us forward as well.

"When he gets the ball he's happy to drive forward because he's got that strength and he's just basically the Alex Mowatt replacement that we've been needing all season and with him there I think he's made an absolute massive difference and without him I don't think we'd be anywhere near having a chance of getting out of this situation.

"So full credit to a young lad Matty Wolfe has been amazing."

The Verdict:

Another impressive victory from Barnsley last night shows just how much those players want to stay up and are willing to fight for both the club and the manager. All the players deserve a lot of credit for that.

It's good to see 21-year-old Matty Wolfe get credit for his contribution. He's been with Barnsley since 2010 and grown up at the club so it obviously means a lot to him and he will be hoping he can carry on to have an impact as he team fights against relegation.

Wolfe has only come into the team recently after being loaned out to Danish side Esbjerg since the summer but by the sounds of it, he's really stepped up and proved himself worthy of a place in the side.

There is no doubt Barnsley continue to have a big task on their hands but they will be hoping they can take confidence form last night's game forward and get themselves out of the relegation zone.
