Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has emerged as a potential target for Derby County in the summer transfer window, it has been reported.

The 19-year-old has impressed during his first full spell in senior football, scoring 13 goals in 29 Scottish Premier League appearances this season, to earn himself the Scottish Football Writer's Young Player of the Season award.

According to The Scottish Sun, those performances have attracted the attention of a number of Championship clubs, including Derby; Bristol City and recently relegated Premier League Cardiff, who all watched the midfielder in Motherwell's 2-0 loss to St Johnstone on Saturday.

Turnbull's contract at Fir Park does not expire until the summer of 2021, meaning Motherwell will likely put up a fight to keep hold of one of the club's prised assets.

So would Turnbull be a good signing for Derby?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinion.

George Brooks
"This could be a very good signing for Derby.
"Turnbull is an exciting young player with a very good goalscoring record, he clearly has a lot of potential.

"At 19, his best years are still ahead of him and he could become a top player in the Championship."
Louie Chandler
"I would be lying if I said I knew, to be honest.
"But Derby have an ageing midfield and any injection of energy they can get in there has got to be a good thing.
"So, I would say go for it."
Toby Wilding
"This would make sense for Derby.
"With loans for Harry Wilson and Mason Mount coming to their end, Derby could do with some fresh talent in their midfielder.
"Turnbull's record in his first season in senior football suggests he could offer just that."
George Harbey
"The perfect long-term replacement for Bryson?
"Turbull is only young, but looks to have achieved a lot in the early stages of his playing career.
"Scoring 13 goals in all competitions is hugely impressive, and Lampard has the coaching ability to get even more out of him, that's for sure."
