The perennial underdogs: Millwall’s 2017/18 in review

Published

Millwall enjoyed a fine return to the Championship in 2017/18 as they came so close to stealing in on the the play-off places.

For much of the season, it was Sheffield United of all the promoted sides that many could see going for back-to-back progression up the leagues.

However, as we approached the business end, Millwall embarked on a run that could only be beaten by Fulham in terms of games unbeaten.

Neil Harris’ men were the underdogs for much of the year but they certainly didn’t let it hinder them as they embraced it all and came so close to having a shot at the top flight.

Time, then, to look back at the season at The Den:

Shaun Hutchinson takes our Player of the Year award whilst George Saville wins Signing of the Year.

Our Young Player gong is given to Jake Cooper as he stepped up into defence whilst Neil Harris’ sarcastic description of Andre Marriner kept us smiling in our Quote of the Year.

Goal of the Season, meanwhile, fell to Jed Wallace for his pearl against Bristol City whilst for Performance of the Year, it was the dramatic late win at Elland Road that highlighted the Lions were ready to take anything on and emerge on top.
