These are exciting times at Oakwell for Barnsley and there’s real thought amongst the Tykes faithful that the team are going places.

Under the guidance of Paul Heckingbottom, last season’s finish in the Championship was convincing and there was no real battle for survival throughout the whole of the campaign.

But with the Championship looking increasingly tough next season, it’s important Barnsley keep pace with other teams in the division and add to their squad just as their competitors are expected to do.

And one man we at the FLW think would be an excellent addition is Sheffield Wednesday utility man Daniel Pudil.

The 31-year-old was out-of-favour for much of the campaign last time out but he’s a player with proven quality at this level, and a man that is far too good to be sat on the bench under Owls chief Carlos Carvalhal.

He can play in at left-back, on the left flank or even more centrally, meaning his versatility is a real asset to most teams he’s played at.

Attacking-wise, he’s a player that can really get at opposition defenders on the wing, but he’s also a man that needs more first-team football than he’s been getting.

Barnsley are a side that few are tipping for a high placing next season, but we’ve seen bigger shocks than that this campaign and with some decent additions and good leadership, they might be a team to keep an eye on next season.

Pudil would be a fantastic start in the summer transfer window.
