Cardiff City will now be hoping to see an upturn in their Championship fortunes in the near future following the confirmation of Neil Harris as Neil Warnock's successor at the club's managerial helm.

Warnock saw his three-year reign at the club come to an end last week when he left the club by mutual consent following a defeat to Bristol City, and Harris has now been tasked with reviving the Bluebirds following an underwhelming start to the season.

Harris has been out of work since resigning from his position as Millwall boss earlier this season, and he will now be focused on engineering Cardiff's ascent up the Championship table with the side he has inherited currently sitting 14th in the table.

The 42-year-old will need to make some subtle changes to the club after things went somewhat stale under Warnock, and this could involve him making some tactical tweaks in addition to a change of personnel in certain areas of the pitch.

This could create an ideal chance for some players who may have seen their playing time restricted so far this term to make their mark on the Cardiff side in the near future, and you would have to say one of these players is summer signing Will Vaulks.

The former Rotherham man joined the Bluebirds over the summer following his former side's relegation to League One, but he has found opportunities in Cardiff's midfield hard to come by, and he has now not featured in the league since August.

Vaulks clearly did not impress Warnock before his departure last week, with the former boss choosing the likes of Joe Ralls, Marlon Pack and Leandro Bacuna over the Welshman in his side's midfield roles.

However, Warnock's departure and Harris' arrival will signal a clean slate for the entire Cardiff squad, and Vaulks will surely noe be relishing the opportunity to impress the new manager during his first week in order to force his way into the side.

It seems that Vaulks is exactly the kind of player Harris would like given his hard-working attitude in the centre of the park in addition to his ability to break up play, and the 26-year-old must now really showcase these qualities early on in Harris' reign.

It is unlikely the new Cardiff boss will immediately make a host of significant changes following his arrival at the club, but the inclusion of Vaulks in his first-team plans seems a distinct possibility given that Harris does need to inject some fresh life into the Bluebirds' side.
