West Brom remain unbeaten in the Championship after Semi Ajayi salvaged a late draw for Albion against fellow promotion contenders Fulham yesterday.

Whilst the manner of the performance will have slightly concerned new boss Slaven Bilic, as the Cottagers were far superior for large parts, the fact the Baggies displayed a lot of fight and character to pick up a point will please him.

And, that resilience is an outstanding quality that the Croatian has instilled into his squad and it will serve them well in what is a demanding, relentless league.

The Championship is widely regarded as one of the toughest divisions in world football, with justification, as we have seen already this season. The unpredictable nature is highlighted by the fact that only one team are yet to taste defeat - Albion.

Of course, drawing four of their first seven games is not ideal and that will have to be improved as the season progresses.

However, the initial challenge for Bilic when he took over at The Hawthorns will have been to put down a platform that he can build on in the coming months - and he has managed to do that.

There is a real spirit at the club right now, evident by the fact Albion haven't managed to keep a clean sheet and still find themselves unbeaten. That shows they are fighting until the end and it also proves that they have quality in the final third, which a side competing promotion needs to have.

Even if reaching the top six was the expectancy, it should also be noted that Bilic inherited a club in a pretty tricky situation.

The crushing defeat to local rivals Aston Villa on penalties in the play-off semi-final will have been a tough one to shake off and several key players from the team last season have left, including Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle.

Supporters were understandably angry with the way the club has been run in recent years and owner Guochuan Lai had serious questions asked of his long-term intentions and about investment.

Yet, Bilic hasn't let that overshadow the work he needed to do.

Instead, he has worked on building a squad that is capable of winning promotion and he, along with the recruitment team, deserve huge credit after a very productive summer window.

That, combined with a new-found resilience and spirit that Albion have under their passionate boss, means they are a side to be feared in the race for promotion because you get the feeling there is still a lot more to come.
