The Championship has rolled back around and the opening weekend of fixtures taught us a lot but for Birmingham City fans, it was a relatively uninspiring afternoon.

Blues went into the game with a lack of creativity running through their squad and it was clear that even pre-match, supporters weren't inspired with the lineup that was selected.

Granted, the additions of N'Doye, Stockdale and Roberts have given Blues a stronger spine but for Harry Redknapp one gaping problem remains: the lack of a player that will make things happen.

From the widemen to the players playing down the middle, apart from Che Adams in that starting XI for Birmingham, there were very few players that could score goals or even create a chance.

The signing of Ravel Morrison looks no closer with Blues refusing to budge on paying more than £3000 of his wages per-week and it's beginning to concern supporters, even this early on.

David Davis, Craig Gardner, Cheikh N'Doye, Jacques Maghoma and Clayton Donaldson failed to make anything happen and when you couple that with Emilio Nsue and Jonathan Grounds as full-backs, you have one of the flattest-looking Birmingham team's we've seen in a long while.

Many Blues fans can't understand why players like Kerim Frei were allowed to leave before fresh reinforcements were brought in by Redknapp, who has openly admitted he's having trouble getting players over the line at St Andrews.

David Cotterill looks set to leave Blues in the coming weeks but even he would have made a difference in this one, with Blues lacking punch, pace and any sort of crossing ability on the wings.

It's all well and good trying to get in a striker which is desperately needed but for Birmingham, bringing in players that can give him opportunities is what Redknapp must address first and foremost.
