It’s been a poor few months for Nottingham Forest and their supporters, who will be hoping for better results than what they saw last time out in the Championship.

The Reds, along with Birmingham City, just about survived on the final day of the season as Blackburn were relegated down into League One.

It would have been crippling for the former European Cup winners, who, moving forward, will surely have aspirations of promotion themselves.

But there’s one man that might not enjoy the same level of success next time out and that’s forward Ben Brereton.

The striker broke into the Forest first-team under former manager Phillipe Montanier last season and continued his good form as Mark Warburton came into the club.

But with Britt Assombalonga now match fit and looking to start firing once again, he’s a player who might not be getting as many first-team minutes this time around as last.

The Congolese forward really is the driving force in this Forest attack and it’s safe to say the Reds really missed him as they slipped down the table last season.

And his form could be key in any Nottingham success this time around, which might mean Brereton has to take more of a subsidiary role.

That’s why a temporary loan switch away might be young Brereton’s biggest chance of success again next season. He’s had a real taste of first-team action and his development is only going to improve if he can continue playing first-team minutes either at this level or below.

It’s certainly something worth considering.
