Last season was one to forget for Nottingham Forest and manager Mark Warburton, with the Reds just about surviving on the final day of the season.

Albeit thanks to a comprehensive 3-0 win over Ipswich Town, the Reds had been far too poor throughout large spells of the campaign.

Their inconsistent home form matched with their often inability to pick up results on the road saw them plummet down the Championship table, and saw former manager Philippe Montanier lose his job.

But despite the season being a poor one on the whole, there were some bright sparks that did well throughout the campaign - one being full-back Eric Lichaj.

Perhaps one of the more surprising stars of the campaign, the American international led from the back and was often one of the more tiresome workers as Forest continually struggled to pick up results.

But moving forward, he’s a player that can be a big part of this Forest redevelopment going forward and adding in at full-back certainly shouldn’t be a priority for Warburton over the summer months.

Lichaj showed on more than enough occasions that he’s fit for the job and that quality often shone through when others around him were struggling to find form.

If they can keep him fit and playing well next time out, Forest might be in with an outside shot of making the play-offs.

Of course, they’re going to have to strengthen elsewhere on the pitch but should Lichaj shine again whilst others around him faulter, he might be a player that considers a move away in January or next summer.
