When Aro Muric decided to join Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal in July, he would have been aiming to become a mainstay in manager Sabri Lamouchi's starting eleven.

One of the most exciting prospects to emerge from Manchester City's youth academy in recent years, the goalkeeper was given his first taste of senior football last year with Dutch side NAC Breda.

Having helped the club secure victory in their Eredivisie clash with De Graafschap, Muric was recalled from his loan spell by the Citizens after Claudio Bravo suffered a serious injury.

Although the Kosovo international did not feature in the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign, he did manage to illustrate some real signs of promise in the Carabao Cup as he played a key role in City's run to the final of the competition.

Given just how talented Muric is, he would have been wanting to take the Championship by storm during the current campaign.

However, this has not been the case as the shot-stopper has been forced to watch on from the sidelines in recent weeks due to the presence of Brice Samba.

Following a disastrous debut which saw him make two glaring errors against West Bromwich Albion, Muric was eventually dropped by Lamouchi after another nervy display in between the sticks for the Reds in their clash with Charlton Athletic.

Since this decision, Forest have won five of their last seven games in the Championship.

Utterly superb during these fixtures, Samba has taken advantage of Muric's woes and is now the Reds' first-choice shot-stopper.

Whilst the season is still very much in its infancy, the City loanee ought to be worried about his current situation at Forest. If he cannot prove to Lamouchi in training why he deserves another chance to impress, Muric's development may stagnate.

Although it is unlikely that he will lose his place in the Kosovo side, any faint hopes of dethroning Ederson at the Etihad Stadium in the future may be crushed if he cannot produce the goods at Championship level.

Therefore, it could be argued that Muric simply has to step up to the mark over the coming months as failure to do so could cause irreparable damage to his career.
