Nottingham Forest have been serious underachievers in the Championship over the past couple of seasons, but there’s hope amongst supporters that this campaign could be a good one.
After their opening day win over Millwall this weekend, the Reds started the campaign with a win.
It was victory against a Millwall side that would have been dogged and hard-to-beat and by no means the worst team in the division this campaign.
Of course, time will tell if this Reds’ performance will carry over to their upcoming games but it seems the feel good factor around the club right now is here to stay.
The new owners have proved to be quiet, efficient workers who seem to be interested in taking the club back to where they should be.
As for Mark Warburton, he’s a manger that has done well with both Brentford and Rangers in recent years so that stability is there too.
But there’s one player we at the FLW think has the quality to take this team forward this season and that’s young striker Ben Brereton.
He’s a man whom we saw glimmers of potential from last season but by no means did we see the best, as certain Reds supporters believe.
He’s a strong, quick striker who came from the Nottingham Forest academy and for the long-suffering Reds fans, that means a lot.
But sympathy will only carry you so far at this level and right now, Forest fans need someone who is going to score the goals to take them up the table and towards the top-six.
Brereton scored a couple of good goals last season and rightly so, supporters got excited about a young man that seemed to care a great deal more than some of the strikers we’ve seen at the City ground over the past couple of years.
With players like McKay, Clough, Osborn and Murphy around him, Brereton does have some real support. It’s about him now and the quality he really has in his locker.
If he can get firing, he could be the man to lead Forest’s promotion charge.
