Norwich City continue to romp towards a surprise promotion to the Premier League and Daniel Farke’s men are showing no signs of slowing down.
A 3-2 win against fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City was the latest in a long line of impressive results and slick displays, meaning they remain top of the Championship table.
Having finished in 14th last season, it is a campaign that really has seemingly come from nowhere although there is no doubt that it is all part of Farke’s long-term plan for the club.
Despite their brilliant position, however, the German insists that his side remain outsiders to win promotion, a surprising statement given the strength of their current position.
Granted, you could argue that the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough and Leeds were seemingly much better equipped at the start of the season, but I am not sure that it is a claim that can realistically be made at this stage.
But what will his squad have made of their manager’s latest comments?
Obviously, this is not something that Farke will genuinely believe. He knows that his side are very much in the favourites category when it comes to promotion now and this has just been said to try and take some of the pressure off his teammates.
The likes of Bristol City and possibly Middlesbrough are outsiders for promotion. Not the team top of the table with just 12 matches of the season left.
But I imagine it will have worked, ultimately keeping the players’ minds off the fact that they are now the favourites for promotion.
Keeping a relaxed but hard working vibe has worked well so far for the Canaries and Farke is rightly trying to maintain that.
