New Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is in the midst of putting together a side he feels is capable of competing for a place in the top six, but will realise that during this period of transition as the club adapt to their new surroundings, achieving this feat will be no easy task.

With the season only two weeks away however, the former Preston manager needs to get moving, as he can only count James Vaughan and Aiden McGeady as the two new faces through the doors of the Stadium of Light this summer.

If reports are to be believed however, Grayson is beginning to gather momentum in his push for new additions, and it has been suggested that the Black Cats are seriously considering a move for Norwich striker Cameron Jerome.

The 30-year-old striker impressed for the Canaries in the division last season, and registered a solid 16 goals and 7 assists throughout the course of the campaign.

Jerome’s exploits helped the East Anglian side to the record of the division’s joint top goal scorers alongside Newcastle and Fulham on 85 strikes, but could be on the move this summer if the right offer were to materialise.

If Farke wishes to keep Jerome at Carrow Road ahead of the new season he may have to fend off advances once again, or consider cashing in on a striker entering the latter stages of his career.

Norwich are certainly not cash shy, and it would take a sizeable offer to convince the club to depart with their top scorer.

Jerome knows the division very well and can certainly score goals at this level, and Grayson will be willing to spend to bring such experience to the club.

A move could well materialise in the coming days or weeks depending on the Black Cats' willingness to strike a deal, and Jerome would certainly be a decent addition to Grayson’s attack ahead of the opening game next month.
