It's been a tough campaign for QPR in the Championship but there's thought amongst supporters that with a solid pre-season campaign, Ian Holloway has every chance of bringing back the good times next season.

The R's have struggled for consistent form this time out and after sacking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink halfway through this campaign, Holloway came in to good effect.

The experienced Football League manager knows this club well having managed at Loftus Road in the past, but it's clear that he needs to put his personality on the squad over the coming weeks and months.

And one man we at the FLW think would have a big impact on the squad going forward is Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi, who becomes a free agent this summer.

The winger has struggled for game time at St James' Park for the past couple of years now and despite showing some real promise at Bolton Wanderers in a loan switch this campaign, there doesn't seem to be light at the end of the tunnel for him in the North East.

But we think Ameobi would be the sort of player that might be able to make an impact at Loftus Road next season under Ian Holloway.

The former Blackpool boss needs hard-working characters who have genuine quality in order to help his team make a push for the top-ten next season and Ameobi might be a gamble worth taking.

For no transfer fee, they might be able to bring in a player who has pace, an eye for goal and a bit of strength too.

Of course, it's going to be somewhat of a gamble bringing in a player who hasn't played much Championship football in recent years but it could be one that really pays off if he finds some form.
