Leeds United are close to completing a deal for Ajax defender Pascal Struijk, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay on Twitter.

The 18-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Amsterdam-based side, and a switch to Elland Road to link up with the development squad is appearing increasingly likely.

Born in Belgium, Struijk was a regular for the Dutch U17 side, appearing at the European Championships in 2016 after impressing in the Ajax academy.

Leeds have paid much attention to bolstering the talent in their development squad, with an influx of players picked up from around Europe currently available to boss Carlos Corberan.

First-team boss Thomas Christiansen could be set to benefit from the strategy in the future, but some Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to question why funds were being withdrawn from the senior squad to bolster the youth ranks…
