‘The most overrated player i’ve ever seen’ – Newcastle fans split at latest transfer news

Championship winners Newcastle United are lining up a move for former winger Andros Townsend this summer, according to The Chronicle.
The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2015/16 campaign at St James’ Park as Steve McClaren’s side attempted to avoid relegation from the Premier League, a job they were unable do as they finished 18th in the division, two points adrift of safety.
Although England international Townsend did his bit to try and keep the North East giants in the Premier League, bagging four goals in just 13 league appearances for the Magpies, yet didn’t stick around to help Rafa Benitez’s men get out of the Championship, instead signing for top-flight outfit Crystal Palace.
Yet recent reports suggest that Newcastle are again interested in bringing Townsend back to St James’ Park, given they were linked with him in January as well, as Benitez looks to bolster his squad ahead of their top-flight campaign next term.
And news of a potential return for the 25-year-old winger has stimulated quite a response from Newcastle supporters on Twitter.
Some want him back, and responded to his tweet in response to Sam Allardyce’s departure at Crystal Palace last night in such fashion…
Townsend is the most overrated player i've even seen. #NUFC

And clearly some believe it’ll be a good move for the Premier League-bound Magpies…
I’d happily take this Pepe & Townsend in as wingers, Gray as striker and another in on loan then just get a CB, LB and Tom Cairney.. #NUFC

Yet there are a number who do not want Townsend back at St James’ Park, and some even mocked the club’s continuous links with the winger…
@MsiDouglas @ChrisDHWaugh Wouldn’t want him back

Is “Newcastle want Townsend” our new recycled rumour for every transfer window until he retires? #nufc

@NUFC360 @andros_townsend @Towno10 Why? He wasn’t interested in us in the Championship and wasn’t either in January as he could of forced a way out if he did
