Stoke City were recently relegated from the Premier League and will realise that recruiting from within the academy could be a strong strategy going forwards.

The Potters had a decade long stay in the top flight of English football, and for the most part, they looked like a solid mid table side.

Under Tony Pulis, and then Mark Hughes, the football was never attractive, but they got the job done.

The youth academy was rendered pretty much irrelevant, however.

In the last 10 years, virtually no players made the step up from the academy to the first time, perhaps to do with competition for first team spots.

Now, Stoke may have no option but to recruit in this way, as money won’t be as prevalent as it once was.

Here, we look at the THREE most exciting talents in the Stoke academy that look likely to make the step up.

Lasse Sorensen signed for the Stoke academy from Esbjerg FB last year and the Danish youth star is enjoying his time in England so far.

The midfielder was included in a couple of matchday squads at the end of last season and is regarded as one of the best talents in the Staffordshire clubs’ academy.

Tyrese Campbell is the son of legendary goalscorer Kevin Campbell and is looking to follow the footsteps of his father.

He was highly-rated at Manchester City, but moved away to seek more regular game time at Stoke City.

Following relegation for the Potters, he looks like he could get first team minutes this season.

Towering defender Harry Souttar was poached from Dundee United in 2016 by Stoke, but is yet to feature for the first team in the Championship.

At age 20, Souttar will be looking to catch the eye of Rowett before too long.
