Leeds United have had a strange decade or so that could be summed up as ‘bizarre’.

The Whites were relegated from the Premier League in 2004 and since then have been subject to many events that have deemed them the division's laughing stock.

The club even plummeted to League One, in what was a truly embarrassing time, until Simon Grayson took over and led them back to the second tier.

Then came a few years of turmoil under the ownership of Massimo Cellino.

Elland Road witnessed a plethora of managers come and go, some lasting for little over a month, and many failing to get the best out of their players for more than a few games.

The club also had a number of strange signings, many of whom unheard of foreign talent, that failed to blossom at the club.

Here, we look at the most bizarre moments of Leeds’ recent history.

'Spygate'

‘Recent history’ doesn’t get much more recent than this, but ‘Spygate’ simply cannot be ignored in a list of bizarre moments.

If you have been on a desert island with no contact to the outside world this week, this refers to Marcelo Bielsa sending a scout to Derby County’s training ground to spy on Lampard’s team.

It has been highly contested and is very controversial, but it helped Leeds to a big victory.

Appointment of Dave Hockaday

The appointment of Dave Hockaday as boss came as a surprise to many Leeds fans, and it was truly a bizarre moment.

Cellino plumped for the former Forest Green boss, despite links with the likes of Gary McAllister and Reading academy boss Eamonn Dolan.

His time at Leeds didn’t last long, the tactics were unclear, and Hockaday’s stint was truly bizarre.

6 players missing game through ‘injury’

Mysteriously, on the eve of a fixture with Charlton Athletic in 2015, six players - all signings of Cellino - pulled out with an ‘injury’.

Mirco Antenucci, Giuseppe Bellusci, Souleymane Doukara, Dario Del Fabro, Marco Silvestri and Edgar Cani controversially missed the game.

Leeds lost 2-1, in what was a bizarre turn of events.
