The Championship is home to many bizarre ongoings and Birmingham has seen a fair few of them over the last decade or so.

The club have spent the majority of their recent history in the Championship, following relegation from the Premier League.

Since that, Birmingham were a standard mid-table club, and threatened relegation a few times.

Gary Rowett led Birmingham to their best form of the recent time, but was sacked despite being in 7th place, with Gianfranco Zola taking the reigns.

That appointment proved to be wrong, and Birmingham spiralled away for the couple of years after, with Garry Monk only really just steadying the ship.

Here, we look at three of the most bizarre things to happen at Birmingham in the last decade or so.

Do you agree with our choices of bizarre moments, or can you think of something weirder that has slipped our minds? Let us know in the comments below.

Rowett sacking

Gary Rowett was flying with Birmingham, on the way to leading them to their best finish in a few years, but he was sacked despite being in 7th place and playing some great football.

Gianfranco Zola came in, and the club plummeted, only narrowly avoiding relegation.

The whole scenario was bizarre, and angered Birmingham fans.

Owner jailed

A truly bizarre moment for Birmingham City FC was when owner Carson Yeung was jailed for six years in 2014.

The businessman was convicted for five charges related to around £55m passing through his bank accounts.

He claimed that he had accumulated his millions through business ventures and gambling, but the judge ruled against him.

Beating Arsenal to win League Cup

Another fairly bizarre moment was when Birmingham beat Arsenal to win the League Cup.

Although it wasn’t the biggest shock of recent history in football, Arsenal were nailed on to win that game, and the loss to Birmingham made them a laughing stock in the footballing world.

Obafemi Martins scored the winning goal, after some calamitous defending by Laurent Koscielny.
