The Owls, for the second season in a row, fell at the playoff stage, but despite another season of Championship football ahead, there is plenty of hope for Wednesday as they look ahead to next season.

Carlos Carvalhal has committed his future to the Yorkshire club, as they look well placed to mount another promotion push next season, with what Owls fans hope will be a different ending.

Wednesday's Portuguese boss is likely to be given a huge warchest to bolster his squad, and with the impending arrival of Jordan Rhodes, Carvalhal can focus his efforts on improving other areas of the side.

One area that Wednesday could be forced into strengthening is centre midfield.

Barry Bannan has been linked with a move to Burnley this week, which would leave a gaping hole in the middle of the Owls midfield.

Filling that hole may be difficult, but one man who could certainly more than replace Bannan, is Swansea's South Korean international, Ki Sung-Yeung.

New Swansea boss, Paul Clement, used Ki sparingly last season, which would indicate that the 28-year-old may be pushed out this summer, once Clement gets more time to bring his own players.

This is where Wednesday should swoop to bring him to Hillsborough. If Swansea are looking to sell, the Owls could sign him for a cut-price fee and he would add some real quality to the Wednesday midfield.

Ki is a box-to-box midfielder who has an eye for a goal, but his quality on the ball is his best attribute. The South Korean would add some real drive to the midfield at Hillsborough, and bring an element of attacking flair that Carvalhal's midfield doesn't currently have.

When Ki picks the ball up and start driving forward, he is a very good player, and in the Championship, he would excel.
