Sam Johnstone has impressed on loan at Aston Villa this season.

Villa are in with a chance of promotion because they have a play-off spot secured, and have an advantage in that they have been able to plan for it for a while due to the unlikelihood of them finishing in the automatic promotion spots.

It will still be a tough task even though they have a strong squad because of the calibre of the opposition that they will come up against. However, they can rely on the fact that they are hard to break down with Sam Johnstone being a major part of that.

The 25-year-old hasn't missed a game all season and has averaged less than a goal per game conceded. Only Wolves and Cardiff can best that this season, which is a major part of why they are currently in the automatic promotion spots.

His clean sheet percentage is 45.5% which is an impressive rate. Obviously the defence contributes to that by cutting out danger before it gets close as well as closing down openings to make it as hard as possible for the opposition players, but Johnstone averages 2.79 saves per goal. Therefore, he plays a key role in that.

A distribution accuracy of 46% is impressive considering Bruce will want to him to focus on the more traditional aspects of goalkeeping first and foremost.

He is a strong all-round goalkeeper and Villa should mount some serious interest in trying to sign him permanently in the summer.
