Queens Park Rangers host Derby County in the Championship tonight.

Mark Warburton's side have hit some good form this month, and with two home games against the two sides above them next up, a top-half finish could quickly materialise for QPR.

They tonight host Phillip Cocu's Derby County who've also experienced an up-turn in form of late, but speaking to www.qpr.co.uk ahead of tonight, Warburton looked back on what was a solid 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest over the weekend:

"It was a performance filled with character, desire and there was no shortage of quality," explained Warburton, who oversaw 37 games in charge of Forest through 2017.

“Forest are a good team and they are pushing hard for promotion. They've invested heavily in their squad and we have gone to a packed City Ground and the players have shown a real desire and resilience to defend our goal and, in truth, I think we had the clearer chances.

“Possession was evenly split – they had more of the first half and we certainly had more in the second half and overall we’re pleased with the point.”

It was a solid defensive performance from QPR, who've now kept back-to-back clean sheets on the road. Their biggest task tonight though will be keeping Wayne Rooney at bay.

England's all-time top-scorer has lifted the Rams since his arrival at the start of the year, and made his 500th appearances in English league football against Fulham last time out, and denied them the win with an audacious panenka penalty.

"They’ve had a good run of results recently,” said Warburton. “Wayne Rooney is definitely having an impact and he would do because he is a world-class player, one of England’s greatest.

“There was always going to be a reaction and they have also got the likes of Lawrence and Waghorn, who we know well. They have quality all over the pitch and what we have to do is recognise it and respect it.

“We have to understand how we can impose ourselves on the game, how we can impact them in a positive way. We are at home and we know that we are a good team; we can create chances and score goals."

The QPR boss also spoke about Yoann Barbet in his press conference. His return to the side after nearly four months out with injury has seen QPR become a much more defensively-sound, and he'll likely keep his spot in the middle of the defence alongside Grant Hall tonight.

“All credit to Yoann, the sports science and medical staff for coming back after that length of injury lay-off and playing the consecutive games at this level," said Warburton.

“That is a great example of the staff and a player working together and you see the outcome. I’m delighted because Yoann has put a lot of effort in.”

A win for QPR tonight would see them leapfrog 13th-place Derby, and they could finish the night as high as 12th in the Championship table.
